Newbridge hosts an evening of free events this Culture Night

A NATIONAL celebration of culture, creativity and the arts culminates through Culture Night this September, with various activities taking place across the country.

On Friday, September 19, events from plays to art exhibitions to Irish language writing workshops will be taking place at Newbridge’s beloved Riverbank Arts Centre, inviting the community to share in the celebration.

The evening kicks off at 4pm with Blue Skies, directed by Kasia Eliasz and performed by Purple Door member Sinéad Reid.

Shortly afterwards, broadcaster, writer, Gaeilgeoir, creative producer and workshop facilitator Ola Majekodunmi hosts a Fighting Words Workshop for adults as Gaeilge at 5pm.

Emerging Visual Artist Bursary Award recipient Fiyin Oluokun will be in the McKenna Gallery from 6pm for drop-in exhibition tours of their solo art exhibition ‘Family Trees hang over Property Lines’.

Also during the evening, Karen McCartney hosts an acting workshop, ‘Shakespeare’s Signposts’, at 7pm in Newbridge Town Hall.

Then at 8pm an evening of spoken word performances and conversations – ‘Things We Carry: Expressions of Black-Irish Identity’ will be chaired by Ola Majekodunmi with Fiyin Oluokun, Samuel Yakura and Sekera Mohamed Besta.

All events are free to attend, but booking is essential as spaces are limited. Those booking online are subject to €1.50 booking fee.
