One of the eye-catching issues

The launch of the new WOODSTOCK book and the official launch of Woodstock Castle Press will take place at 6.30pm on Thursday 3 October in Athy Library.

Woodstock Castle Press is a new community publishing initiative established in 2024 by artists Mark Durkan and Mary Jo Gilligan and Rose Doyle, Chairperson of Athy West Urban Community Group in collaboration with communities in the Woodstock area.

Woodstock Castle Press was set up to serve as a platform to explore, celebrate and give voice to the communities of Woodstock. The series of mini-publications called Woodstock were designed as a way for the communities to first connect with each other and secondly to communicate with the wider town and beyond.

They are now proud to announce the launch of the new WOODSTOCK book that will gather all of the publications and brand new material into a larger book.

The book will be presented in the town’s library on 3 October as part of an evening of story-telling, music, celebration and chat. This will include a talk on the rich heritage of the Woodstock area given by artist and archaeologist Marc Guernon and historian Clem Roche, music by Robert Chanders and Carmel Day and additional special guests, with more to be announced.

Woodstock Castle Press emerged out of the Creative Places Athy Woodstock Artists Residency, funded by Creative Places Athy and Kildare Leader Partnership – empowering communities, Slaintecare – Healthy Communities, with additional funding by Kildare Co Council’s Heritage Office.
