Whiteley enjoys first double of his career
Conor Whiteley rode the first of his young career at Newcastle
Young Monasterevin jockey Conor Whiteley continues to see his stock grow across the water as he enjoyed the first double of his burgeoning career in Newcastle on Tuesday.
Whiteley had four rides on the card and was successful on his first attempt with 4/1 shot Rubellite for Curragh trainer Stephen Hanlon, who is now based in North Yorkshire.
The 19-year-old’s next ride was also for Hanlon but there was no luck on Master Harry.
Whiteley is currently serving his apprenticeship in David O’Meara’s yard, also in North Yorkshire, and he completed his double with a win for his boss when 5/2 favourite Auntie Jo won by an impressive 2 ¾ lengths.
That brought up 15 winners for Whiteley in the current UK Flat season and he will have plenty of chances to add to that with seven rides lined up over the next week at Hamilton, Doncaster and Pontefract.
