Moorefield man David Whyte will join Brian Flanagan’s Kildare management team ahead of the 2027 season, subject to ratification at November's County Board meeting.
The powerful midfielder/wing-forward enjoyed a prosperous playing career with his club, including winning two Leinster titles in 2006 and 2017.

After featuring on the Kildare Under 21 team that won a Leinster title before losing an All-Ireland semi-final to Kerry under Glenn Ryan in 2008, his playing senior career started for Kildare in the 2010 O’Byrne Cup. He featured in a number of games that year, including in the Championship. By the time of his final appearance for Kildare, in the 2016 O’Byrne Cup, he had made 29 appearances for the Lilywhites.
Since hanging up his boots, Whyte has turned his attention to management and coaching.
In his first management role in 2021, he led Rathcoffey to their first Kildare Junior Final since 1990.
He then returned to own club to work under Ger Brennan for two years. He impressed significantly for the Dublin man to take Whyte with him when he was appointed as manager ahead of the 2024 season.
Whyte was part of the coaching team when Louth famously won their first Leinster title in 68 years in 2025.
Speaking to the Kildare Nationalist shortly after that success, Whyte said it was an immensely enjoyable experience but that ‘ you would love to see it in your own county.’
He will now have the opportunity to put those ideas into practice after linking up with Davy Burke and Damien Hendy on Flanagan's management team as they bid to engineer an upturn in Kildare's fortunes in 2027.
