Athy breaks in Emily Square with Halloween event
The Halloween parade in Athy
ATHY came alive on Halloween night, with the first big event in Emily Square since its refurbishment.
Patricia Berry described the night as “exceptionally good” and was delighted that the heavy rain managed to stay away until after the event had finished.

“The rain didn’t dampen the spirits in Athy,” she said. “Emily Square was packed. Everyone made such an effort with their costumes.”
The Halloween Spooktacular event began at 6.30pm on Friday, October 31, and included a fancy dress parade with members of the community, members of the gardaí, the Order of Malta, the Civil Defence, and the fire service.

Attendees enjoyed live entertainment in the Square, with a laser and light show and a drum show, and plenty of families got pictures with the witch statue at the stage.

Music was provided on the night, all thanks to Dj Gary, and plenty of prizes were given out. Over 20 people went home that night with a prize for best costume and 15 took home prizes for the best carved pumpkin.
Athy Town Promoters also revealed that Self Help Africa, Athy was awarded the prize for best Halloween shopfront display.

Athy Town Promoters wanted to thank everyone who dedicated their time to the event, including the gardaí, the Civil Defence, the Order of Malta, the fire service and the wonderful volunteers.

“All these people make it all happen,” said Patricia. “We get great support from them.”
With Halloween in rearview, Athy can start getting ready for the next big event on Emily Square.
