Athy Tidy Towns Awards bestow honours

THERE WAS a huge turnout once again at the Athy Tidy Towns Awards at the Athy Municipal District Office.
Presented by Cathaoirleach Ivan Keatley and Chair of Athy Tidy Towns, Ger Kelly, businesses and local residents were honoured with awards in a wide range of categories.

The event was attended by members of local community groups, local representatives such as Mark Wall TD, and local residents.

Patricia Berry from Athy Town Promoters, who was MC on the night, said: “It went very well this year. We had a full house and it was received very well by the community.”

Some Athy residential estates won awards on the night for keeping a lovely, tidy presentation all year round, while local groups and businesses shined for their dedication, not only to the town’s environment, but to its community.

For the estate awards the list is as follows: Category 1 - Shanrath estate, Category 2 - Earls Court, Category 3 - Joint winning between Ardrew Meadows and White Castle Lawn, Category 4 - Rheban Manor, Category 5 - St Joseph’s Terrace, Category 6 - Clonmullion, Category 7 - Old Clonmullion.

Community awards were received by various groups: The Biodiversity/Climate Award - Kildare Athy Scouts and Extern (Youth Division Project), Community Award - People’s Park Committee, Creativity Award - Clonmullion Retirement Village, Youth Endeavour Award - Kildare Athy Scouts, Pride of Place - Athy Sing & Sign, Special Award - Kildare Civil Defence.
As for the business awards: Traditional Shopfront Award - Celebrating 150th Anniversary, O’Brien’s, Most Attractive Shopfront Award - Central Bar, Best Overall Business - The Clanard Court Hotel.
