LAST Saturday (1 February) the harmonious voices of Newbridge Gospel Choir launched a new single dedicated to Saint Brigid, the Irish patroness of spring, peace and inspiration called ‘Cloak of Green’.

Written by Laura Hill, it features the songwriter on vocals alongside the choir led by Lisa Nagle, and followed the unveiling of a second Brigid mural on the gable end of the Firecastle building, overlooking her cathedral in Kildare town.
This was dedicated by Dean Isobel Jackson, and Fr Adrian Carbury, in the presence of Dr Mary O’Connor, Chair of Kildare Town Heritage committee.

Their special guest was Josephine Hardiman, whose Celtic calligraphy featured on the mural.

The song offers a message of peace and hope, inviting listeners to find these through Brigid’s enduring story.
The collaboration was motivated by a shared connection with Kildare and desire to create a meaningful musical tribute honouring Brigid's legacy and celebrating her cultural and spiritual significance.

As part of Juniper Three, a Scotland-based trio known for their lush harmonies and seamless interweaving of genres, Laura Hill blends her signature style with the choir’s vibrant harmonies in this evocative piece.
The instrumental arrangement, crafted by Irish musician and producer Brian McGrane, combines modern elements with traditional Irish influences, creating a soundscape that feels both timeless and contemporary.
Recording, mixing and mastering by Conor Wilkins brings the song to life.
“We hope this song becomes a go-to anthem, especially on Saint Brigid’s Day,” says choir leader Lisa Nagle.
It was first performed to coincide with the unveiling of St Brigid of Kildare, a large-scale mural in Kildare Town created by internationally acclaimed street artist Mister Copy to celebrate Brigid 1500.
Meanwhile, it was a busy day at Solas Bhride as locals and visitors gathered to make St Brigid crosses.
