A LOCAL crowd gathered in Castledermot on Easter Monday for a fun-filled afternoon that brought together families, children, and local residents for a duck race and tractor race, proudly organised by Castledermot Vintage Club.
As a simple but enjoyable day out, the event proved a great success, helped in no small part by good weather and strong local support.
“It was a brilliant day,” the club’s Secretary, Catherine Horan. “We were lucky with the weather, and we had great support from the community in Castledermot, which we’re always very grateful for.”

The festivities began at 3pm with a children’s tractor race, where participants ranging from toddlers onwards brought along their own toy tractors to take part. Every child who participated received an Easter egg, ensuring smiles all around.

The afternoon also featured a range of free entertainment for younger attendees, including face painting, a balloon artist crafting colourful creations, and a piñata.
At 4pm, attention turned to the much-anticipated duck race, a highlight of the event. A variety of prizes were up for grabs, including a top prize of €200, followed by €100 and €50 cash prize.
Additional prizes included a

meal voucher, a hairdresser’s voucher, and a special “lucky duck” prize worth €50, awarded to a random duck in the swarm.

The event succeeded in its goal of bringing people together for an afternoon of light-hearted fun. “It wasn’t anything too big, just something simple to get everyone together,” said Catherine.

With a strong turnout and positive feedback from attendees, the Castledermot Vintage Club Easter Monday event once again demonstrated the value of community-driven events.
