The event took place on June 19 after school hours and was blessed with beautiful weather.

“It was a chance to celebrate the school being open for the first year. So we invited the pupils and their families and the staff and their families just to kind of really make it a community event,” said school principal Kate Steed.

Around 70 people gathered on the day to eat delicious BBQ food and mingle.

“A lot of our families can’t really go to events because a lot of the children would struggle, so it was a lovely chance for our families to be able to mix, get to know each other and to know that the children are in a safe, familiar environment.”

There was a great reaction from attendees, and it was a lovely opportunity for families to see the school, meet everyone and develop that community feel.

Entirely sponsored by Supervalu, the community day had plenty of food to keep bellies full – cooked and served by C&N Catering who gave their time free of charge, and cold drinks to cool attendees down in the hot weather.

Supervalu also provided spot prizes for the raffle, which included food and drink hampers and garden furniture.

The school was able to raise just over €3,000 on the day, which will go towards class resources for the upcoming academic year.

Craddockstown school was delighted with how the day turned out and is excited for the upcoming year, which will expand the school with new students and families – adding to the school’s vibrant community.
