A cheque for €30,000 recently handed over to a representative of the Irish Cancer Society by the Mac & Norman Vintage Rally organisers brought the total raised by the group over decades to more than €610,000. The latest funds were the result of the rally held in August that celebrated 22 years of the event which included in the total of 369 vehicles more than 220 tractors, some 65 trucks, and motorbikes and vintage cars.
The cheque was accepted by Brid, a night nurse with the ICS, who told those present at The Fox Bar in Dunlavin what such donations mean for those families where cancer strikes.
The initiative was begun by the Sully and Egar families of Cannycourt, near Brannockstown outside Kilcullen. The funds all go towards advice, services, research and support for cancer patients and their families.
