Kildare's Churchtown NS celebrates Christmas with Nativity play
Churchtown National School Christmas Show
CHURCHTOWN National School in Athy held its annual Christmas play, which involved all students from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.
Christmas is always a very special time for staff and students at the school, with events such as the annual movie night, run by the Sixth Class students, and a trip to the Gaeity Panto – a tradition in the school going on for over 20 years.

“Our Junior room also had a trip to the theatre to see 'I want a Hippo for Christmas' which was magical,” said Principal Gayle Murphy.
Although, the highlight this year was the school’s play on 17 December, which invited parents, guardians and family members to watch the show that all the students and teachers worked so hard to put on.

“We went with something a little different this year and planned three plays in one!” said Principal Murphy.
“Each classroom put on their own amazing performances to a packed audience of parents, grandparents, family and friends.” The Junior room performed 'The Bossy King', the Middle room performed ' Santa's Missing List' and the Senior room performed 'The Nativity'. Each group sang, performed and played tin whistle.

The event ended with teas and fresh cream fancies for all the audience – a thank you for the continued support for the school throughout the year.

Christmas in Churchtown NS did not finish there. On December 18, students were surprised with a visit from Santa who gave out selection boxes to all the fantastic students, and on Friday the Parent’s Association put on a Christmas Disco.
Churchtown NS is now enrolling for the new school year 2026/2027. Contact the school on churchathy@gmail.com for more info.
