Monasterevin firefighters receive recognition

Monasterevin firefighters received deserved recognition for their service at the annual StreetFest celebrations.
Monasterevin StreetFest opened this year with the presentation of Community Recognition Awards. This year's award went to Monasterevin Fire Fighters.
The award was sponsored by Monasterevin Credit Union.
Past and present members and family members were in attendance, also Patricia Ryan TD, councillors Kevin Duffy and Pat Balfe.
In recognition of the service provided over the years, the list of deceased members and past and present members were read.
The committee congratulated the service and thanked them for their service to the community and surrounding areas. Their families were also thanked.
Mary Ryan of Monasterevin Credit Union congratulated the firefighters and mentioned the credit union was delighted to sponsor this community award.
Ms Ryan thanked the volunteers who give up so much time while the job has many elements of danger.
She lauded the spirit of the volunteers who started this service in 1949 had a vision of what was good for the town.
Each member were presented with a statue of a firefighter and certificate and a plaque for the Fire Station.
A beautiful cake was cut to mark the occasion. Station Officer Brian Morrissey thanked the committee.
