A NEW support group for mothers and babies has been launched at the Family Resource Centre, Athy, aiming to fill a gap in local services for parents of newborns.
The group, which runs every Friday from 10am to 11.30am, provides a welcoming space for parents to connect, share experiences, and access expert advice.
Cuidiú Breast Feeding Counseller Aoife Kelly explained that the group, which has already had its first two sessions, is aimed at parents of new babies under one year old to fill the gap in services for this age group.
The sessions are drop-in, meaning no registration is required, and refreshments are provided.

Alongside socialising, mothers can avail of additional supports including baby massage classes, tummy time sensory play, and mindful parenting activities.
Professionals are also involved, with a social prescriber in attendance and visits from health experts such as midwives and public health nurses.
Aoife also offers monthly breastfeeding support groups as part of the programme.
“The idea is to create a wraparound service,” explained Aoife.
The group is expected to continue indefinitely, offering a reliable weekly space for parents to learn and connect.
