There was a great turnout for the annual charity walk that has been going in some shape or form for five decades.
Sunday 13 October was a beautiful and bright day on the Curragh and Newbridge Kildare Lions Club celebrated five decades of the annual Schools Health Walk, an iconic intergenerational fundraising event that has become a tradition within the community.

First organised by the Lions Club in 1976 as a cycling fundraiser, it promotes health, fun, and fundraising, passed down through generations from parents to children, with attendance by families and a good few dogs too!

Rory de Bruir, a dedicated member of the Newbridge Kildare Lions Club, has been the main event organiser, showing unwavering commitment to the success and spirit of the event over the years. This event has underlined the club's commitment to enhancing the lives of community members and instilling the values of charity in the next generation.

The success of the event is attributed to the support of sponsors, including the gardaí, The Red Cross, The Curragh Racecourse, Mahon’s Wholesale, Lidl, and Tesco, whose contributions ensured a delightful and fun experience for the young participants.

The Lions Club thanked the 246 participants, knowing that their involvement supports the charitable endeavours and community-building initiatives of the Newbridge Kildare Lions Club. Notably, 70 per cent of the funds raised benefit participating schools, while 30 per cent support the annual Lions Christmas food appeal.
