Popular Kildare priest says goodbye to parish

Fr Andy Leahy

The parishioners of Nurney and Kildangan in Kildare were saddened when they received the news that Fr Andy Leahy, parish priest of three years, will not be returning to the parish after his recent hospitalisation.

He issued the following statement:

“I would like to thank all of you for your many good wishes and prayers during my time in hospital. Following the advice of my doctor and his medical team and having talked to bishop Denis, I am sad to announce that I will not be returning to my ministry in the parish of Kildare and Nurney/Kildangan.

“After I leave hospital, I have arranged to live with the community of St Patrick’s Missionary Society, Kiltegan for some time Then, please God, when I return to full health again, I look forward to taking up a new appointment in the diocese. I am very grateful for the great support of my colleague Fr Adrian and for the way he continues to serve you with such energy and generosity. To all of you, I will always carry with me. Remembering you fondly in my prayers Fr Andy.”
