Aldi gets green light for Naas store revamp

Aldi Ireland today confirmed it is set to extend and revamp its Jigginstown store in Naas, Co Kildare next year.

The news comes as the supermarket was granted planning permission from Kildare County Council for its expanded 1142 sqm store today. Five new permanent roles will be created in Naas upon the re-opening of the store.

The revamped store will also benefit from four new electric charging points, two standard EV charging spaces and two accessible EV charging spaces along with 10 bike parking spaces available.

Commenting on the announcement, Colin Breslin, managing director of buying & services, Aldi Ireland said: “We have now received planning permission to extend and revamp our ALDI Jigginstown store. This extension will provide our customers with a larger shopping area and an improved shopping experience. The store revamp is part of ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh store layout. In addition, it’s great to see five new jobs being created in the town.” Operating nine stores, a regional distribution centre and head office facility in County Kildare, ALDI is deeply involved in the local community. Aldi employs over 700 staff in the county, spending almost €30M on wages annually. Through its partnership with FoodCloud, Aldi’s Kildare stores have donated over 88,000 meals to local charities to date. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with, Irish Wheelchair Association, Lilywhite Wheelers Multi-Sport Junior Club and Samaritans Newbridge among some of the many charities that have benefited from the programme in recent years.

This announcement follows the retailer’s announcement in September 2023 of its €33.6 million investment programme in four Midlands counties over the next two years. ALDI has received planning permission for new stores in Moate (Westmeath), Tullamore (Offaly) and Granard (Longford) and also submitted a planning application for a new store at Kilcock (Kildare). If planning is approved, the four proposed stores would all open by 2025, creating 120 permanent jobs across the region, with 200 jobs supported during the construction phase.
