Ruby Boland starred for Ireland U16s last week

Sallins starlet Ruby Boland impressed for Ireland in two friendlies for the Ireland U16 team against Switzerland in Dublin last week.

After featuring against Portugal earlier in the year in the first game for the squad under the management of James Scott, the Shamrock Rovers defender started in the first of the games against the Swiss in the FAI National Training Centre.

Boland, who has also represented Kildare LGFA teams in the past, drew rave reviews for her display as the game finished 1-1, before Ireland won a penalty shoot-out.

Manager Scott took the opportunity to change up his team for the second game two days later and Boland was introduced in the 55th minute in a 2-2 draw.

Boland now turns her attention to club action at the weekend. Shamrock Rovers, who had six players in the Ireland, currently top the Under 17 National League table after winning all six game so far and they play Waterford this weekend.
