It’s been a near two-year injury nightmare for Shane Farrell but finally there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel as he made a return to the pitch for Kilcock this evening.
Farrell marked himself out as one of the brightest prospects in the game as an inspirational joint-captain as Kildare lifted the U20 All-Ireland Final in 2023, having been part of the team that was beaten in the final the year before.

He looked to be building on that promise in his debut season as a senior inter-county footballer in the following year. Although it was a disappointing year for the team, Farrell turned in a number of eye-catching performances culminating in an outstanding display when scoring six points in what proved to be Kildare’s last game of the season against Laois.
Unfortunately, instead of building on that and becoming a key player for club and county, Farrell has been left frustrated on the sidelines with a foot injury that just would not clear up.
That all ended this evening as he came on as a 45th minute substitute in the Division 3 clash against Robertstown. He wasted no time in making his mark by scoring a point within a minute of his reintroduction and then in his first game under the new rules, kicked a two pointer as Kilcock ran out 5-11 to 1-8 winners.
It’s good news to see such a talented footballer return to the pitch but Kilcock and Kildare supporters, as well as Farrell himself, will have their fingers crossed that the injuries are now behind him and that he can deliver on his huge potential.
