Rory Feely helped Cork City qualify for the FAI Cup Final this evening
Rory Feely is heading back to the FAI Cup Final after Cork City put their relegation worries behind them to record a stunning 3-0 upset win over St Patrick’s Athletic in this evening’s semi-final at Turner’s Cross.
With Cork firmly rooted to the foot of the Premier Division table, few gave them a chance against Stephen Kenny’s team but they turned in a fantastic display.
Former Ireland international Seani Maguire gave them the lead after nine minutes and Evan McLaughlin wrapped up the win with two goals inside two second half minutes.
Feely, who played in his part in a backline that kept a clean sheet, played, and scored, in the 2021 FAI Final for Bohemians against St Pats but lost out that day after a heartbreaking penalty shoot out.
The Athy man went on to play in England for Barrow and Crawley Town but returned to the League of Ireland when signing for Cork last July and is now planning another trip to Aviva Stadium.
The Kildare connection with Cork extends to off the pitch.
Manager Gerard Nash hails from Leixlip, while owner Dermot Usher is based in Kildare.
Cork will play the winners of Shamrock Rovers versus Kerry, who play in the second semi-final on Sunday.
