THE boys in Knockbeg College will meet their new principal, a former Kildare teacher, when they return to school this month.

John Maye is the newly-appointed head of the school following the retirement of Michael Carew, who was ten years in the role.

John is returning to Knockbeg, having taught there from 2003 to 2018. He forms the senior management team with deputy principal Conor Ronan who is from Athy.

“I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity to return to Knockbeg,” he told The Kildare Nationalist. “I am honoured to serve as principal of one of the most historically-important schools in the country. Since returning, I have been impressed by the ultra-modern campus and buildings. I hope Conor and I, along with the staff, can continue to deliver the highest standards of holistic education that have always been associated with Knockbeg.”

John returns to Knockbeg College with a wealth of teaching and management experience.

In 2018, he took up a post as deputy principal in St Conleth’s Community College, Newbridge, before moving to Duiske College, Graignamanagh as principal in 2020.

Despite working elsewhere, he always retained a strong interest in all things Knockbeg and was an invited guest to the official opening of the new school building in 2021.
