Joanna Donnelly says she wants to run for President.

The former weather presenter and author is the latest celebrity to throw their hat into the ring.

Ms Donnelly says she has emailed all the local authorities in a bid to secure a nomination before midnight on Monday.

She says she wants to be a voice to champion climate causes from Áras an Uachtarain.

She said she is serious about her candidacy, but had “no reason to believe that anybody was taking it seriously.”

Earlier this year, Ms Donnelly announced that she would not longer be preparing and presenting weather forecasts on RTÉ after two decades.

She also left Met Éireann, citing chronic stress she claimed she experienced because of her work conditions.

The Presidential election will take place on Friday October 24th.

So far the only guaranteed nominees are Galway Independent TD Catherine Connolly, and Heather Humphreys, will be running for Fine Gael.

Ms Connolly has received the backing of Labour, Social Democrats, and People Before Profit.

At the time of wring, it is unclear if Sinn Féin will back Ms Connolly, or run their own candidate.
