'I just want peace': woman granted protection order at Kildare court

“YOU’RE very upset, I can see you crying,” said a judge to a woman, who was in a recent sitting of Naas District Court to apply for a protection order against her alcoholic husband.
“I see you’ve written to the court, saying you’re very sorry for not turning up for your last appointed court date,” said Judge Desmond Zaidan.
“So why are you looking for a Protection Order?”
“He goes out drinking, and doesn’t come home until two or three o’clock in the morning,” she replied.
“I can’t sleep, he drinks all the time, I just want peace”.
The judge granted her an interim Protection Order, having to return for a full hearing on 14 September.
