Jail for Monasterevin driver for next insurance offence

The case was heard at Portlaoise District Court
AN INTERPRETER who was assisting a man in court last week for driving without insurance was told by Judge Andrew Cody to tell the man: “No insurance. No driving. Next time prison.”
The warning was issued when Ibrahkim Sanavbarov from Ardevan Grove, Monasterevin pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and to failing to provide his insurance certificate when stopped by gardaí on 21 September at Woodview, Monasterevin at Portlaoise District Court recently.
The court was told the 21-year-old defendant, who works as a general operative, had two previous convictions.
After hearing this Judge Cody noted: “And two months later he’s back out driving.”
Defending barrister Brian Mallon said that on the day he was stopped by the gardaí his client had his young son in the car with him who had a very high fever and had been to the hospital.
When he arrived at the hospital, the barrister said, “he was told it was not a hospital matter and the boy was discharged.”
Judge Cody convicted Mr Sanavbarov of driving without insurance. He fined him €1,500 and disqualified him from driving for 4 years. He took the other matter into consideration.
He fixed recognisance in the event that Mr Sanavbarov wanted to appeal the sentence.
Before concluding the case Judge Cody spoke to the interpreter and said: “Tell him. “No insurance. No driving. Next time prison.”
