Kilcullen youngster named in Ireland squad
Jamie Jacob has been named on the Ireland Under 15 squad for three friendlies against the Netherlands next week
Kilcullen’s Jamie Jacob has been named in the Under 15 Ireland squad for three friendlies against the Netherlands next week.
Jacob captained the KDUL in last summer’s Kennedy Cup before leaving his home town club to sign for Shamrock Rovers.
He was part of the Rovers team who began the Under 15 National League with a win over Klub Kildare last weekend and then in midweek represented his school as CPC Kilcullen beat Patrician Newbridge in the U17 Midlands League final.
Hugely talented across a number of sports, Jacob has also represented Kilcullen GAA in the past and is a former underage national boxing champion and underage boxing international.
The Under 15 national squad will face the Netherlands on three matchdays next week- Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – and then Under 16s will play their Dutch counterparts on Saturday 8 March, with all games taking place in Uden.
Speaking about the games, FAI Technical Director Shane Robinson said: “The four games across the two age groups will be an excellent challenge for our young players and a real test for our teams against quality opposition.
"We have a great relationship with the KNVB and many of our underage teams over the years have faced the Netherlands and it is always a high-standard of game between our two countries.
"The week will play a big part in the players’ development and we thank the KNVB for hosting us for the upcoming week."
