Investigation into non-compliance of planning conditions at Kildare site

A COUNCIL investigation is underway into a distribution centre in Johnstown following complaints concerning HGV activity and alleged non-compliance with planning conditions.
At September’s meeting of Naas Municipal District, cllr Anne Breen proposed that Kildare County Council investigate ‘environmental issues’ related to noise pollution near Johnstown village, which she said is caused by articulated lorries entering and leaving a local distribution centre outside business hours, ‘causing excessive noise in the neighbourhood’.
The written response to the Labour Party councillor’s motion, issued by the planning department of the council, said that ‘an unauthorised development file is open on this site in relation to potential non-compliance with conditions of the parent planning permission.’
Cllr Breen said she was happy with the report, as she was set to speak with planners after the meeting.
Cllr Fintan Brett said that the file was opened after he submitted a complaint last March concerning “the illegal use of a sterilised area of the site by trucks beeping and creating all sorts”.
He said: “It’s bad enough that this transport hub is in the middle of a small village” and that “this carry-on at 5 and o’clock in the morning is not acceptable”.
