Kildare say ‘no’ to anyone for President

KILDARE County Council announced yesterday at a Special Meeting on Monday, 22 September, that it will not endorse a candidate for the forthcoming Presidential election.
“Maria Steen was the only one for the vote today (22 September),” said cllr Chris Pender. “Last Wednesday there were supposed to be 14 candidates turning up to give a presentation to the County Council, but only seven turned up, and none of them was Maria Steen.
“In fact, two of the councillors who nominated her Noel (Heavey) and Tom (McDonnell) didn’t even show up,” he noted.
The third nominator was cllr Brian O’Loughlin who it is understood withdrew his support.
