WATERFORD 2

On a beautiful sunny morning Klub Kildare played Waterford in the Under 17 Women’s League of Ireland game in FBD Hotels and Resorts Park.

Klub Kildare will want to start learning that if they are not going to take their chances in this league that they will be severely punished and so it was on Saturday where after dominating the game they were on the wrong side of a 2-1 defeat.

Klub Kildare took control of the game from the kick off and put the Waterford defence under severe pressure with keeper Sophie Carroll bring off three great saves.

Waterford went in front after thirty-four minutes with their first attempt on goal as Zoe O Sullivan was allowed run from the half way line before slotting the ball past keeper Carla Byrne.

Waterford took control of the game for the next fifteen minutes and Carla Byrne came to Klub Kildare’s rescue with a few fine saves.

The second half saw Klub Kildare regain control and thy had plenty of chances to score but it time running out it was Morgan Kearney who popped up from the full back position to hit a cracker in off the upright to level the scores.

Klub Kildare had the smell of victory in their nostrils but the referee awarded Waterford a penalty kick which amazed everybody in the ground as he was the only one to see anything resembling a penalty. Lexie Ferris took the penalty and despatched beyond the arms of Kate Gayson in the Kildare goal.

Waterford went home with three points but manager Paul Roberts was left frustrated after the game.

“I did not see anything that could be considered a penalty there and it is very frustrating to have decisions like that awarded against us.We train hard during the week and we played well today but we were not clinical enough,“ he said after the game.

Klub Kildare are at home next week to Wexford in FBD Hotels and Resorts Park.
