A man who allegedly masturbated during an online counselling session with a female therapist pleaded not guilty, and will now have his case heard in a fortnight.
The man who can’t be named appeared in Athy District Court last week is in his 30s with an address in Dublin “did engage in masturbation while on an online session”.
“It was organized privately with a female counsellor,” said Sergeant Dave Hanrahan. The counsellor, who also wasn’t named, lives in Co Kildare and the offence is alleged to have happened in January 2022.
No reason was given by the State at this stage as to why the charge took nearly three and a half years to bring this case to court. Sgt Hanrahan told the court that the DPP would not accept jurisdiction because of the severity of the charge, however Judge Desmond Zaidan said he would, and set a hearing date of 8 July.
“I didn’t do it,” said the defendant. “This person is looking for attention, and looking to blame someone else with false accusations,” he said in his formal reply to charge.
