Man charged with Kildare arson appears in court

A MAN accused of arson in Sallins will have to return to court next month from custody to learn his trial date for the circuit court.
Robbie Brennan (35) Evington House, New Gardens, Athy Road, Carlow appeared in Naas District Court Summer Sittings in custody, though in person rather than by videolink, as required because he was due to be presented with his book of evidence.
This was in relation to the charge stemming from allegations at Hillview, Sallins on 9 June 2025.
Judge Catherine Hayden enquired if Brennan had a solicitor, and was told: “Joe Farrell from Carlow”.
“I don’t think he’s there,” said newly promoted Inspector Dave Hanrahan, who was congratulated warmly on his elevation by Judge Hayden.
“He’s in for a book of evidence today (13 August) but we don’t have it,” he said.
“However, his (unnamed) co-accused is in for (appearance on) 2 September here in Naas District Court,” he added.
“I take it then, that on that day do I have to do videolink, or be produced (in person)?” asked Mr Brennan.
“For a book of evidence you have to be produced,” said Judge Hayden.
“OK. Thank you very much,” said Mr Brennan, as he was led off back to custody, to return on 2 September.
