A young mother was given an interim protection order from “the father of my children” because of his alleged campaign of harassment and threats. The woman from south Kildare was appearing behind closed doors during the Family Law session of Athy District Court last week.

“Why do you want a protection order from him?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan.

“He keeps coming round to my apartment with his brothers and friends shouting at me,” she alleged. “He’s thrown eggs at me. He comes on unannounced visits, and there’s constant threats,” she said.

“How do you sleep?” asked the judge.

“I have my kids at home and they keep me busy,” she said.

“I’m getting counselling in Portlaoise,” she added. “I would feel a lot safer with this.” “I will grant an interim protection order and will adjourn this until 24 July for hearing” said Judge Zaidan.
