Man who represents himself in Kildare court due to solicitor's strike gets Probation Act

The case was heard at Naas District Court

A MAN who represented himself on the advice of his striking solicitor and pleaded guilty despite seven previous convictions, was given the benefit of the Probation Act.

Adam Warner (26), from College Wood Park in Clane was charged with public order after “gardaí encountered him (at his home address) very intoxicated, and a danger to himself” on 6 March 2025.

“Because we’re on strike I can’t represent you, but you can represent yourself,” suggested David Powderley to his client on the video screen.

Mr Warner took the opportunity, and Judge Desmond Zaidan immediately declared: “Section1(I)” of the Probation Act, clearing his docket, but not changing Mr Warner’s position, as he is still on custody on other matters.

Mr Warner asked the judge for continued counselling on addiction matters as he had spent three months in Cuan Mhuire “and I’ve been clean since”.

“He’s out the back of it,” said Mr Powderley.

“Keep it up,” said the judge.
