A MAN has been sent forward to Naas Circuit Court on 29 April for alleged fraudulent activity through 'phishing' text messages.
Alberto Cinpeanu (21) with an address at Graces Park, Derrinturn, Carbury attended Naas District Court on 3 April to formally receive a date and an alibi warning for his trial at Naas Circuit Court.
The defendant faces five charges altogether. It is alleged that Mr Cinpeanu took a total of €2,000 from a person’s bank account on 20 July 2023 following a phishing text, before the subject’s bank account was blocked by their bank provider, Bank of Ireland.
Mr Cinpeanu was charged under Section 7(1)(b) of the Money Laundering and Financing Terrorists Act.
“He was able to obtain two € 1,000 payments from the account at the time,” said Sgt Meade.
Judge Zaidan said: “I formally send you forward to Naas Circuit Court on 29 March. I have to give an alibi warning. If any alibi forms, he has 14 days from today to give his alibi to the protecting authorities.” Mr Cinpeanu is to continue bail under the same terms and conditions previously decided.
