New inner relief road for bottlenecked Kildare town opens

IT doesn’t sound like much – indeed, it is less than a half a kilometre – but when you see the size of the crowd that turned up for the official opening of the Capdoo bypass in Clane, you can begin to understand the pressure this will relieve from this most bottlenecked of towns.
Kildare County Council marked the official opening of approximately 450 metres of the Capdoo Inner Relief Road in Clane on Wednesday (9 September), marking an important step in improving local connectivity and supporting the sustainable growth of the town.
The new section of road connects the Kilcock Road (R407) with Capdoo Park and the Celbridge Road (R403), providing an important new link within Clane’s local transport network.
The scheme was delivered by Dunform Properties Limited, with co-funding from Kildare County Council.
Works include the construction of a new roundabout on the R407, pedestrian crossing facilities, public lighting, drainage infrastructure, and associated cycle tracks and footpaths.
“The opening of the Capdoo Inner Relief Road is a welcome development for Clane and the wider area,” said Sonya Kavanagh, chief executive, Kildare County Council. “This project will improve connectivity, support safer movement for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and help provide the infrastructure needed to accommodate the continued sustainable growth of the town.
“It is also a strong example of the positive outcomes that can be delivered through effective collaboration between the public and private sectors.” The opening of the Capdoo Inner Relief Road demonstrates what can be achieved through effective collaboration between Kildare County Council and the development sector.
The new link will support safer travel for all road users, improve access across the area and help facilitate the continued development of Clane in a planned and sustainable way.
