‘A gentleman to the core’ – tributes paid to Kildare man following sad passing

The late Barry Deay

The late Barry Deay has been remembered for his love for and devotion to his family, his kindness, generosity and dedication, his good humour and friendship, and his ready smile.

The community of Spratstown near Crookstown and further afield was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Barry's sudden and untimely death on Saturday.

Tributes have flooded in, with people recalling someone who was “a gentleman to the core,” a “great person, family man and a huge community man”, an individual whose generosity “knew no bounds” and a “truly genuine and lovely person.”

A man who worked tirelessly for his community, Barry gave of his time and efforts for many years as a member of the Board of Management of St Laurence's N.S. in Crookstown, and he played an integral part in the planning and building of the new school.

Predeceased by his parents Barney and Peg, Barry is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Maura, daughters Aine and Doireann, and son Ciaran. He will be sadly missed by his son-in-law Ronan, daughter-in-law Danielle and his adored grandchildren Cillian and Cian. Also, by brothers Sean, Seamus and Pat and his loving sister Mag, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and extended families, his neighbours, wide circle of wonderful friends and former colleagues of the Irish Prison Service.

His funeral arrangements will be published on RIP.ie.
