Almost €600,000 allocated to Kildare community centres

Minister Martin Heydon with council colleagues, Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer and Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer
KILDARE South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and the Marine, Martin Heydon, has welcomed confirmation of funding of €598,117 for eight Kildare community centres under the Community Centre Investment Fund.
He said: “These Kildare allocations are part of a €26 million investment nationwide announced by Government today.
The Community Centre investment fund is a fund that was set up by Fine Gael in recognition of the important role played by community groups right across the country in providing communal spaces for local groups, organisations and people to gather.”
These grants will make a really big difference to local facilities in our communities, whether it’s refurbishment works, installing a new kitchen or carrying out energy upgrades, this funding will make a real difference to those that avail of these centres.

“This funding is all about giving our communities a helping hand from Castledermot to Kilcullen and Kildare town, Newbridge to Caragh and Sallins, we are making our towns and villages better places to live, work and raise a family.
Minister Heydon said: “The voluntary and community sector provide so much to our local communities across Kildare, and the programme for Government commits to continuing to support communities in the work they do.
“It’s fair to say that in good times and bad, our community centres are so important for our older people, our young people and families alike. They are safe and welcoming places for friends, neighbours and indeed those who are socially isolated to come together, and as we reach the fifth anniversary since the first COVID restrictions, we now appreciate the value of connectivity, which community centres provide.”
“I would like to take this opportunity today to say a big thank you to the committees and volunteers who run these centres throughout the year. We couldn’t do it without you, ” concluded Minister Heydon.
