Kildare man accused of sexual assault at house party

A MAN from Athy who allegedly groped a woman in bed following a house party will have to return to court in October to learn his trial date.
The man aged in his 20s appeared in Athy District Court last week faced a charge of sexual assault following the alleged incident at an address in the town on 29 April 2025.
“This was following a house party when the accused got into her bed, and when she woke up he was kissing her neck, feeling her chest area and buttocks,” explained Sergeant Dave Hanrahan.
“She followed him out, was pushed to the ground, and grazed her elbows.
“He was known to her, as they had met four or five times in the past.” The sergeant told the court a file had already gone to the DPP who had indicated “trial by indictment”, that is, a trial in the Circuit Court before a jury, and confirmed that the accused had previously signed a €1,000 bail bond.
“Book of evidence?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan.
“Maybe six weeks?” suggested the sergeant.
“Will I give you until October?” asked the judge.
“Yes, judge,” said the sergeant, and so the defendant was remanded on continuing bail to re-appear on 13 October for a book of evidence and a circuit court date.
