KILDARE County Council has confirmed that it is to hold a meeting this week with the Minister of the Methodist Church in Athy to discuss the lease for the building as Athy Arts Centre.

Previously, it was only assumed that a meeting was to take place in the coming weeks, but today (22 October) Arts Officer for Kildare Elaine Donnelly confirmed that this meeting would take place this week.

“We want to reassure people that Kildare Arts is fully committed to support the Arts Centre now, and into the future,” said Ms Donnelly.

“The conversation is ongoing, and it has been identified that repairs to the building are needed, and that is part of the bigger conversation around the lease,” she said.

Ms Donnelly stressed that though she was Arts Officer for the county she was not part of the lease negotiations, but that it was Director of Cultural Services Eoghan Ryan for the Council, and lay Minister Beverley Barbour for the Methodist community that were conducting the talks.

“It will get resolved, and the County Council is absolutely committed to getting this resolved,” said Ms Donnelly.
