The very busy playground in Athy is in line for a €15,000 upgrade.
The playground in People’s Park received the funding under the capital grant scheme for play and recreation and funding of €15,109 has been allocated to Kildare County Council.
It’s not yet known what kind of upgrade the playground will receive but the news was welcomed by local minister Martin Heydon.
“Every child should have access to a safe and modern play area and I know this is a popular area for families in Athy.
“The benefits of outdoor play for children are well known – it’s good for their health, they can make new friends, it inspires the imagination and brings excitement into young lives. We want to see these upgrades so that our playgrounds are more accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for all children.
“I look forward to seeing the completed project in The People’s Park. I know this project will have a major impact on the vibrancy of our local community."
Minister Heydon also recognised the need for additional play facilities in the county.
He said: “With the continued growth of our large towns in Kildare, particularly Newbridge, and Kildare Town, there is an increasing need for suitable play and recreation facilities to suit, and I will continue to work with colleagues to deliver them.”
