Athy is to get new dog waste stations

Athy is to get new dog waste stations in an effort to combat the dog foul problem on the streets of the town.

A meeting took place between local groups, state agencies and councillors on 12 March where it was agreed to purchase a number of dog waste stations in the coming weeks to be erected along walking routes.

Along with the waste stations, Athy Tidy Towns Committee have agreed to launch a campaign to raise awareness around the issue. Labour Party’s Mark Leigh had previous raised the issue and called for the meeting at the February Athy MD.

“It seems dog fouling in Athy is a lot more common, the street is full of it,” said cllr Leigh at the time.

Organisers would like to thank the representatives from Kildare County Council, Athy Tidy Towns, An Garda Síochána, Tús and town councillors for attending.
