Athy woman charged with assault causing harm appears in court

A WOMAN charged with the assault causing the harm of another in Athy in March in which the victim’s nails were allegedly broken will have to wait until November to learn her eventual fate.

Annette Keane with an address at Castlepark, Athy was in her local district court to be charged with the assault causing harm of an unnamed injured party at Emily Square in the town on 18 March last.

“This is an alleged serious assault,” said Judge Desmond Zaidan.

“This was an altercation with another female,” explained Sergeant Dave Hanrahan. ”She slapped her and punched her, before dragging her to the ground, where the injured party broke her nails.

“False or real?” enquired the judge.

“I think they were false,” said defending solicitor Jackie McManus.

“Okay, then, because I think false nails are less serious than real nails,” he ventured.

Judge Zaidan remanded the 34-year-old defendant on continuing bail to return on 11 November for her trial.
