Athy woman fined for train station theft

Athy Railway Station, scene of the theft

A WOMAN who stole €200 from the hands of another woman on a railway station platform, was fined €1,000 for her troubles this week (24 September).

Appearing in Athy District Court to face a total of nine charges of theft and shoplifting was Chloe Martin (27), Minch’s Terrace, Athy.

The court was told that on 17 January, 2023 at Athy Railway Station “she took €200 from the hands of a female victim”, according to Sergeant Daven Hanrahan, who then went through a sample of her other charges.

On three occasions in August, 2021 she took groceries, cans of Red Bull and clothing worth from Aldi. Over the period of this year she also stole a kettle, fake eyelashes, a pregnancy test, and cans of Red Bull on separate occasions. She was also charged with taking a €130 taxi fare at this time and refused to pay, though on a date not mentioned.

Her solicitor Jackie McManus entered a guilty plea, saying her client wanted to finalise matters today, and so Judge Desmond Zaidan agreed. He immediately hit her with a €1,000 fine – “for the train station theft” – and took into consideration all the other charges and summons.
