193 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the St Brigid's bank holiday weekend.

As part of a road safety campaign over the weekend, gardaí also detained over 660 vehicles. Half of these were detained because they had no insurance.

Over the weekend, there were two fatalities on Irish roads and 15 serious injuries. 13 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.

From Friday, January 30th, to Monday, February 2nd, gardaí and mobile and fixed GoSafe cameras detected nearly 3,500 motorists speeding. The highest volume of detections was on Monday, with over 800 speeding detections.

  • 95kph in a 50kph zone on the Malahide Road, Dublin 3
  • 90kph in a 50kph zone on the R405, Celbridge, Co Kildare
  • 86kph in a 50kph zone on the R183, Doohamlet, Co Monaghan
  • 134kph in a 60kph zone on the Katherine Tynan Road, Dublin 24
  • 123kph in a 60kph zone on the R154 in Trim, Co Meath
  • 95kph in a 60kph zone on the R267, Bundoran, Co Donegal
  • 154kph in in an 80kph zone on the N16 in Glencar, Co Sligo
  • 130kph in an 80kph zone on the R239 in Fahan, Co Donegal
  • 113kph in an 80kph zone on the N59 in Wesport, Co Mayo
  • 190kph in a 100kph zone on the N4, Aughamore, Co Leitrim
  • 173kph in a 100kph zone on the N18 in Ballinacurra (Weston), Limerick
  • 140kph in a 100kph zone on the N4, Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all road users to not drive distracted, to not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, to always drive within the posted speed limit, and to always wear a seatbelt.
