Barrow trailhead facility proposed for Athy

Proposed layout of trailhead

Kildare County Council is planning to develop a new trailhead facility adjacent to the newly constructed towpath on the banks of the Grand Canal Barrow Line at Canalside in Athy.

The project is set to include a new shared space entrance/exit road, car parking and bicycle spaces, three storage lockers, a pedestrian access link to the towpath, amenities such as a play area and benches, and information signage.

The plan aims to improve public access to the blueway for both locals and visitors.

Drainage will be designed and delivered in compliance with Sustainable urban drainage methods and will include the construction of a tee pit, rain garden, permeable pavements and a swale drain with no discharge of surface water from the site.

The project is now in the public consultation phase and plans are available to view at Aras Cill Dara from 11 March to 28 April or online.
