Call for outdoor stage at Kildare park

Kerdiffstown Park

A PROPOSAL to create a stage and canopy area for live music and entertainment at Kerdiffstown Park was brought before Kildare County Council at the most recent Naas Municpal District meeting.

Cllr Fintan Brett tabled the motion calling for the installation of a canopy or stage in the park’s “natural amphitheatre” to facilitate summertime events.

Landfill considerations

“There’s a great opportunity to make use of the park’s natural layout for community gatherings and live performances,” cllr Brett said, suggesting that such a facility could enhance the park’s role as a social and cultural hub.

However, in response, the council said there are currently no plans to develop a canopy or stage at the location.

According to a report issued by the council’s acting senior parks and landscaping officer, any such project would first require a feasibility study due to the site’s complex nature.

“Any proposals to develop these facilities would involve investigating their feasibility first for potential users and how they could be constructed given the site is a landfill site and difficulties this could present for any foundations required,” the report stated.

'Win-Win'

Kerdiffstown Park, which officially opened in 2022, was developed on the site of a former landfill following a major environmental remediation project.

While the park has since become a popular recreational space, its landfill status continues to restrict certain types of infrastructure and construction.

Even without a response that works in his favour, cllr Brett remained hopeful towards his idea calling it a “win-win.”

Naas Mayor, Seamie Moore supported the motion, calling it an “excellent proposal”, and offered that construction has dramatically developed in recent years, allowing for the delivery of a stage on the former landfill site.
