A MAN charged with two sexual acts against a retail worker in Kildare will have to return to court in May for a full hearing after he entered a plea of not guilty against both charges.

“These are very serious, they come in under the Rape Act,” noted Judge Desmond Zaidan whilst reading the case documents at a closed door hearing in Naas District Court last week.

“The DPP has directed summary disposal (to be heard in the lower court),” said court presenter Sergeant Mary Meade.

The sergeant explained that on dates between 1 and 31 August, 2024 “a male customer started making flirty comments with the injured party (at named shop) which made her feel uncomfortable”.

“She was cleaning the freezer when the defendant reached in and touched her left breast, above the clothes,” said the sergeant.

“Then on the second occasion he followed her to a lift and hugged her, and moved his hand down to her bottom,” said Sgt Meade.

Judge Zaidan accepted jurisdiction.

Once defending solicitor Seamus Boyle entered his client’s not guilty plea, the case was adjourned until 19 May for hearing.
