Daughter pays heartfelt tribute to motorcyclist (48) killed in Cavan crash

A daughter has paid a heartfelt tribute to her father who was killed in an accident in Co Cavan on Tuesday afternoon, January 2nd.
The collision on the main Cavan to Ballinagh road (N55) at Corlurgan close to Cavan town involved a car and a motorcycle and occurred shortly after 3pm on Tuesday. The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
He has been named locally as Gary Murphy (48) who was a native of Cavan town. Locals described Mr Murphy who was affectionately known as ‘squeaky’ "as an absolute gentleman and a pleasure to know". They said he "absolutely loved motorbikes".
In a moving post on social media his daughter Meadbh wrote "love you so much dad. I hope you’re at peace now".
His cousin John Murphy wrote "everyone has that one cousin who is more like a brother. Gary was that one. My heart is broken. Love to you and all the family. Rest easy now".
Mr Murphy is survived by his parents Kitty and Denis and four adult children. No funeral arrangements have been made as of yet.
Gardaí meanwhile, are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N55 in the Corlurgan area between 3pm and 3:30pm on Tuesday, January 2nd, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
