CURRAGH and Kildare training maestro Dermot Weld is very fond of heading West in the last week of July and first week of August and this year is no different as he holds plenty of entries across next week’s Galway Festival.

The powerhouse trainer looks set to send a hefty battalion to Ballybrit to compete over the popular Festival, which kicks off on Monday.

Of the 735 races run at Galway since 2010, no less than 84 of them have been won by Weld and he aims to stamp his authority once again this year.

Below is a run through of who Weld could have in action on day one of the Festival, where BoyleSports will be offering the latest Galway Festival odds:

Monday 6.00 - Truth Be Told

The first potential runner of the week for Weld could be Truth Be Told, a two-year-old with just one run under his belt so far which was a fourth of seven finish in a Naas maiden back on July 6 but further improvement is expected from the offspring of Too Darn Hot here.

6.40 - Campari Soda

This three-year-old has yet to win in three starts for Weld but has finished in the places one time so far, coming on debut in April at Gowran Park in a Fillies Maiden contest. On paper, the trip to Galway looks like a tough assignment for the Weld runner.

7.10 - Astar

A four-year-old out of the prolific sire Sea The Stars, you could have expected better out of Astar so far with just one win in 11 runs under rules. That came back on September 23 when she scored in a Clonmel Fillies and Mares’ Maiden, making all of the one mile and one furlong trip and scoring as an 8/11 favourite.

7.45 - Brosna Town

Finally on Monday, Weld could send Brosna Town to Ballybrit for the Gra Chocolate Handicap, the penultimate race on the card for horses rated between 60 and 90. Powerhouse trainer Aidan O’Brien could have Gallantly in this race but from Weld’s yard, he will be taking him on with three-year-old Brosna Town who arrives in great fettle. Weld’s runner was a winner on his last outing, that coming on June 14 at Fairyhouse to shed his maiden tag, winning by a neck from Sundance Sioux as a 9/1 shot.
