Former ‘Eastender’ is new Kildare councillor

Kildare's newest SD councillor Paula Mulroe
A FORMER script editor on Eastenders has been confirmed as the first co-option onto Kildare County Council for the seat vacated by new elected Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly. Paula Mulroe from Prosperous is the first of four to be confirmed, with Fianna Fail, Sinn Fein and Fine Gael still to announce their candidates to replace Naoise O’Cearuil, Shonagh Ni Raghallaigh, and Joe Neville.
“With a strong background in education and community engagement, Paula is well-equipped to continue my work and address the needs of the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District on Kildare County Council,” said Deputy Farrelly.
“She is a community advocate and experienced public servant, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her new role.”
A native of County Galway, Paula is a resident of Prosperous, and currently serves as the head of the Department of Humanities at the South East Technological University (SETU) campus in Naas.
She has been actively involved in local politics for over a decade, serving in various capacities in the Kildare North Branch of the Social Democrats and has worked across several election and referendum campaigns.
“I am honoured to have been selected to serve on the Kildare County Council,” Paula Mulroe said.
“I look forward to working with my fellow council members and the residents of the Clane Electoral Area to build on the progress we have made and to tackle the challenges ahead.
“I am very much looking forward to continuing the legacy of Aidan Farrelly and Catherine Murphy by advocating for quality public services and sustainable development.”
She added: “I started my career as a continuity or script supervisor for features and TV. This is a great way to learn how movies work and also the innate drama in scenes on the page and in the can.
