Heartfelt tributes have been paid to former mayor of Kildare, Micheál Spike Nolan.
A member of the Fine Gael party, Nolan served as a coucillor for seven years, from 2007 to 2014.
He was defined by his community spirit and deep dedication to his hometown of Newbridge and many mourners remarked on his work within the community, as a member of the Patrician Primary School board of management and a staunch follower of Sarsfield's GAA club.
Beloved father to Tadhg, Jack, and Rebecca and husband to Deirdre, Nolan reposed Tuesday October 1 at 3pm in Anderson and Leahy funeral home on Henry Street, Newbridge.
His removal took place yesterday morning, Wednesday October 2 and he was laid to rest at St. Conleth's cemetary directly after the funeral mass in the same church.

Delivering the eulogy an emotional Tadhg spoke of the loving family he grew up in, nutured by his father whom he described as "a hero, a role model but most importantly, my Dad" who "just kept going."
Fr Ruairi O'Domhnall spoke highly of the former mayor, saying some politicians are "street angels, house devils" but not Micheál Spike Nolan who, despite several setbacks in his career, remained positive and dedicated to enacting change for the benefit of his fellow constituents.
At just 53 years of age, Nolan's death was suddden and untimely and he will be remembered with love by his wife, Deirdre; his children Rebecca, Tadhg, and Jack; the family dog, Pearl; his mum, Ursula; his siblings; mother-in-law, Cissy; extended family; relatives and friends.
I was deeply saddened yesterday to learn of the sudden death of my first cousin twice removed, Micheál ‘Spike’ Nolan, twice Mayor of Kildare. My deepest sympathy to his family, and to all my Newbridge Nolans. A young man gone too soon. https://t.co/etBjyBFBVb

Ah, I only learned of Spikes death when the Leinster Leader came in this morning. He was a lovely man, I bumped into him at the county council election counts and we had a chance for a quick conspiratorial catch up. Much too young.
