Frank Taaffe to be honoured with 'Made Of Athy' plaque

The Mady Of Athy project, which is a celebration of artists, musicians and writers in Athy, is delighted to honour none other than well respected Athy writer and historian, Frank Taaffe.
The plaque, which is to be unveiled on Sunday, June 29 at Mr Taaffe's childhood home on Offaly Street, will honour Mr Taaffe’s massive body of work, spanning decades and documenting Athy’s history – places, people and memories.
Made Of Athy's Colm Walsh, spoke to the
about the event and said: “It’s important to acknowledge his canon of writing. It’s shockingly important going forward.”He added: “He has left a legacy that will be important in 100 years’ time.”
The unveiling of the plaque, which will begin at 11am will be led by writer John MacKenna who will say a few words in Mr Taaffe’s honour.
Locals are welcome to share in the recognition of one of Athy’s most influential figures, crediting a huge body of work and the legacy it leaves behind.
